Scripts, Cartoons and Comics, OH MY
Hello! My name is John Connor Cook. I'm a freelance screenwriter and cartoonist specializing in high concept genre fare, particularly in the field of animation.
If that seems like the kind of stuff you want to make, let's schedule a meeting!

Who am I?
John Connor Cook is a writer and cartoonist based in Burbank California who specializes in high-concept genre stories, especially in the realm of animation. After graduating from CHAPMAN UNIVERSITY, Connor began a career as a freelancer, offering both writing and illustration services to a number of projects including: Animated Short Films, Youtube Channels, Non-Profits, Children's Novels, Short-form Cartoons as well as his own projects which range from novels, to television pilots, to webcomics.

Connor was awarded a BFA in Screenwriting from DODGE COLLEGE OF FILM AND MEDIA ARTS at CHAPMAN UNIVERSITY (one of the top screenwriting programs in the country). There, he learned the craft from industry alumni like John Musker (THE LITTLE MERMAID, PRINCESS AND THE FROG), John Perez (SOCIAL FIENDS) and James Dutcher (CITY GUYS, MEN WOMEN WANT). He's received formal training in writing for: feature film, television, animation, podcasts, comics, stage plays and video games.

A self-taught cartoonist, after a lifetime of drawing comics and cartoons, Connor published RAZOR: THE ROCK AND ROLL WEREWOLF's first chapter in 2024 on WEBTOON as a proof of concept for the full series. RAZOR: THE ROCK AND ROLL WEREWOLF is in development as a comic series, and available for optioning as an animated production for television.

In addition to his freelance work, Connor has worked in development at ANARCHIST'S UNITED (Lily Wachowski) and currently does non-profit work with STARS IN ACTION, an organization dedicated to helping new filmmakers and screenwriters get their start in the industry.

SOME FUN FACTS ABOUT ME:

-Before I gave into my passion for screenwriting, I was going to go to school for ZOOLOGY and become a zookeeper or wildlife researcher. My love of the animal kingdom remains a consistent influence in my writing (and the design motifs of this website).

-Other than comics and screenwriting, my favorite creative activity is Dungeons and Dragons! I even started my high school's Dungeons and Dragon's club, which I'm told is still going strong! That remains one of my proudest achievements... That and the SIX HOUR one-shot game I ran in college with only five minutes of prep time!

-My metric for judging film is: if it can make me OPENLY WEEP (usually NOT BY BEING SAD, but just by overcoming me with emotion, often tears of joy or just pure awesomeness), it gets an automatic A+. Nine films have made that list since I started counting, most of them Animated.
